Greenware
Greenware explores a state of suspended transformation within the CAN-verse universe.
Unlike the fired ceramic works, these unfired clay forms remain porous, unstable, and vulnerable to their environment. In ceramics, “greenware” refers to clay that has been shaped but has not yet passed through fire. It exists between earth and object.
Historically, firing marks a point of stabilization. Soft matter becomes permanent form. In this series, the cans resist that final transformation. Left unfired, they absorb moisture, crack, and allow plant life to emerge through them.
Rather than becoming fixed industrial objects, the forms remain in a state of becoming.
The works reflect on potentiality, permeability, and refusal, questioning whether permanence represents completion or the loss of transformation.
